E-MED

The project, part of the Interreg EURO MED programme, aims to optimise energy efficiency and resource management in public transport systems.

Description

ATB is part of E-MED, the project part of the Interreg EURO MED programme, which focuses on optimising energy efficiency and resource management in public transport systems. The aim of E-MED is to significantly reduce the environmental impact of public transport and improve the sector's ability to adapt to fluctuations in energy prices, exacerbated by the current energy crisis.

To achieve this, E-MED develops solutions to improve energy efficiency and integrate renewable energy sources through tools for fleet management, infrastructure planning, driver assistance and intelligent maintenance of energy systems. The project also aims to increase resource efficiency and resilience through battery reuse, rainwater harvesting, tyre maintenance and procurement criteria. E-MED solutions promote evidence-based planning through the adoption of electric buses, facilitating informed choices and more efficient investment and procurement strategies.

The cooperation area involves 69 regions from 14 countries along the northern shore of the Mediterranean, including 10 EU Member States and 4 Pre-Accession Assistance Programme (IPA) countries.

Project duration: from 1/01/2024 to 30/09/2026.

ATB contribution

ATB Mobility actively participates in E-MED on several levels, contributing:

  • to the definition of guidelines, i.e. the creation of guidelines for public transport agencies to optimise investment in infrastructure. The Electric Bus Rapid Transit (eBRT), is an example of this, with the evaluation of the performance of rapid transit systems for all-electric buses
  • to the analysis on the use of renewable energy mediating the study of the optimal use of locally generated renewable energy and other sources
  • to the identification of energy-efficient solutions integrating renewables, energy storage and multi-use infrastructure

Economic data

The total budget of the E-MED project amounts to 2,978,404.00 euro, with a share of 245,690.00 euro assigned to ATB Mobilità S.p.A. Of this amount, €196,552.00 is financed through Interreg funds (80%), while the remaining €49,138.00 is the partner's contribution (20%).
